VOLUNTEERS

Indian Summer Festival is an all volunteer organization that needs volunteers throughout the year to assist in the planning and organizing of the festival and winter pow wow. Additionally, over 1000 volunteers are needed each day of the festival in order to make it a success. Not only is volunteering a great way to meet new people, but each 4-hour shift of volunteering provides free admission to the festival, food and beverage tickets, and a discount on our clothing merchandise.

Volunteer opportunities exist in a variety of areas including:

v Admission ticket sales: Work behind a ticket window at the mid-gate of the grounds selling general admission tickets to the public. This also may include assisting festival attendees with “will call” ticket pickup and coupon redemption as well as answering general questions about the festival ticket prices and event hours.

v Food/beverage tickets sales: Work in a kiosk selling $.50 tickets to festival attendees. The tickets are sold in $5.00 sheets of tickets. These tickets are used by festival attendees to purchase food and beverages during the festival.

v Merchandise sales: Sell festival shirts, hats and miscellaneous keepsake items in a booth identified as the Indian Summer Trading Post. This is also an excellent opportunity to assist festival guests with questions on the grounds layout and scheduled events.

v Pow Wow: Register dancers and drums. Assist with refreshments for the dancers and drummers. Assist with the planning of the pow wow

v Entertainment/stages: Work backstage assisting performers with their needs. Attendance and participation in the entertainment planning meetings throughout the year is also an option.

v Music Awards Show: Assist with the show set up by preparing gift bags, name tags, seating arrangement and the check in of guests, show presenters and entertainers.

v Information booth: Work in a large booth inside the mid gate of the festival grounds assisting attendees with questions on the layout of the grounds and scheduled events. Printed material and schedules of events are also available to provide as needed.

v Stroller/wheelchair rental: Maintain sign out list and driver’s license collateral for wheelchair and stroller rental at designated rental booth.

v Office-week before and during festival: Answer phones on festival ticket pricing, scheduled events and directions to the festival park. Also, assist festival entertainers, vendors, artists, volunteers and suppliers with grounds layout and their designated setup locations and timeframes.

v Security (over 18): Provide guidance and watch over the festival operations. This oversight is required to prevent alcoholic beverages from being consumed in the traditional area; backstage and at stage access points; grounds gate access points and at festival VIP or special event activities.

v Ticketed Entry Gates: Attend the ticket turnstile and welcome festival attendees while checking to be sure each person passing through the turnstile has the appropriate ticket required for entry to the festival. Direction to the appropriate ticket sales or “will call” window may at times be necessary.

v Ticket Weighing: Assist food vending coordinator, using postal scales, to weigh food and beverage tickets collected by food vendors to calculate payment to the food vendors. This is done on Saturday morning from 9am to 1pm; Sunday morning from 9am to 1pm and at festival close until all food vendors have had their tickets weighed. This may take from 10pm to 1am on Sunday night. This is challenging and fun and allows one on one interaction with the festival food vendors.

v Mailings: Affix labels and stuff envelopes for mailing. This is required throughout the year and is done at the Indian Summer office.

v Planning committees: Actively work on the planning and implementation of festival activities. There are a variety of working committees that meet year long to bring together new and refreshing ideas for the festival. Committees include: circle of art, marketplace, entertainment, education day, food vending, natural path healing, festival theme, merchandise sales, ticket weighing, supplies, beverage sales, marketing, sponsorship, ticket sales, festival setup and tear down and the pow wow.
